Justification By Faith
The doctrine of justification by faith is explained in the
book of Romans, it applies to every one who believes, and it affects our
life in more than one way.
Justification is a concept of law courts and it’s an act by which a
person is brought into a right state because justice has been satisfied.
The Word of God declares that we are cleared (declared not guilty),
when we put faith in the blood of Jesus and in his propitiatory
sacrifice.
Propitiation (Greek: “Hilasterion”) is the act of getting rid of sin
that has come between God and man, creating an obstacle to their mutual
relationship. The blood comes between the violated law and the
violator. Because the blood of Jesus satisfied the demands of the law,
sin - with its guilt - is removed, mercy is extended, and fellowship
with God is restored. Those who put their faith in Jesus are not only
forgiven, but they are put in a position of right standing with God or
justified!
The Apostle Paul, in Romans 3:23-26, declares:
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory
of God,
being justified as a gift
by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through
faith. {This was} to demonstrate
His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over
the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, {I say,} of His
righteousness at the present time, that He might be
just and the justifier
of the one who has faith in Jesus.” (NAS)
Because God is righteous, the believer is not only saved by His
mercy, but also by His justice. God extended mercy on the basis of
justice being satisfied. He did not condone sin; the price for it was
paid. (It was paid by Jesus through His suffering, death and
resurrection).
Therefore, God would be unjust if He withheld justification
for us when we apply faith in the blood of Jesus. This
revelation sets us free from lot of guilt and condemnation regarding the
sins of our past. Truly Jesus was our guilt offering!! Furthermore,
because God has justified us by declaring us “not guilty”, we can
silence the voice of the accuser, proclaiming, like Jesus did, “...the
chief of this godless world is about to attack, but he has nothing on
me, no claim on me “
